Rudesheim on the Rhine

We selected Rudesheim specifically for the river cruises to see the castles.  It turned out to be a pretty and charming small town in a beautiful setting.

Everyone except me went for a ride across the countryside in a gondola type contraption.  It was reported to be a fun experience.

At dinner one night the accordionist/singer came to our table and sang La Cucaracha to us.  As we were leaving Jolly and Kaylie took a tip up to him and he played us out of the restaurant with La Cucaracha.  We didn't know if he thought we were Mexican or cockroaches.

The first day we tried to take the river cruise, they were all shut down because an undetonated, WWII area bomb was found nearby in the river.  It apparently happens with some frequency.  The next day there was an all clear.

The cruises are 45 minutes one way, then back again.  There are 4 stops and 4 or 5 castles. Seemed like enough to get the flavor of the river, small towns and ancient castles. Also it was a hot day so a couple of hours was sufficient for all of us.
